Bangkok: Today marks the final day for submitting applications for the position of Governor of the Bank of Thailand (BOT), to succeed Mr. Sethaput Suthiwatanaruput, whose term concludes on September 30, 2025. It is anticipated that 6-7 candidates will apply for the role.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira stated that although 6-7 applicants are expected, no names have been disclosed yet. The list of applicants is anticipated to be finalized by this evening. The selection process will adhere to legal procedures.
The selection committee, led by Mr. Sathit Limpongpan, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, has been accepting applications since May 13, 2025. Following the application deadline today, the committee will review the qualifications and disqualifications of the applicants. Interviews are scheduled for June 20, 2025, with vision presentations set for June 24, 2025. On July 2, 2025, the list of qualified candidates will be forwarded to the Minister of Finance for consideration. The selection committee is required by law to submit the names of at least two nominees for the BOT Governor position to the Minister of Finance, who will then present them to the Cabinet for further action.
Potential candidates for the position include Mr. Santitarn Sathirathai, an expert member of the Monetary Policy Committee and advisor to the Thailand Development Research Institute, Mr. Somprawin Manprasert, former Senior Executive Vice President and CEO of the Economic and Business Intelligence Center, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Director-General of the Treasury Department, Mr. Kobsak Pootrakool, Senior Executive Vice President of Bangkok Bank, Ms. Roong Mallikamas, Deputy Governor for Administration at BOT, Ms. Sutapa Amornvivat, CEO of Abacus Digital Co., Ltd., and Mr. Piti Tantiyakasem, CEO of Thanachart Bank.
