Bangkok: "Danupon" has appealed to the public not to trust fake news regarding the Thai-Cambodian border issue, emphasizing that government officials are dedicated to resolving the situation. He urged citizens to maintain confidence, assuring that the Prime Minister is committed to fostering negotiations.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Danupon Punnakan, MP and spokesman for the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the ongoing unrest at the Thai-Cambodian border during a recent press conference. He expressed gratitude to the soldiers safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and confirmed that after a reported clash at Chong Bok on May 28, military leaders from both countries met the following day to discuss the situation. Since these discussions, there have been no further incidents, indicating efforts to restore normalcy are underway.
Mr. Danupon highlighted the issue of fake news, noting its potential to distort public perception and harm international relations. He urged the public to approach news with caution and verify information through multiple media sources, particularly mainstream outlets, to avoid being misled by false reports that could incite conflict between Thailand and its neighboring countries.
He further noted that after the government received reports on the issue, coordination with various agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, was initiated. Political parties are working to prevent future border conflicts, which could impact border trade and the well-being of citizens. Mr. Danupon called for trust in the soldiers and the government, emphasizing the Prime Minister's role in advancing negotiations to ensure such incidents do not recur, aiming to reassure the public.
