Cyber Police Apprehend ‘M Ekkachat’ for Money Laundering on Gambling Websites

Bangkok: Cyber police have arrested 'M Ekkachat' and his associates for allegedly laundering money through online gambling platforms, confiscating assets valued at over 50 million baht.

According to Thai News Agency, the case unfolded after Bird Wanwang and Mr. Ekkachai Meeprom, also known as M Ekkachai, a racing influencer, were linked to a prank that led to the death of Bank Lester at a restaurant owned by M Ekkachai. This incident prompted the Cyber Police to scrutinize M Ekkachai's activities, leading them to discover a gambling website link shared on his Facebook page. The investigation culminated in police gathering substantial evidence by March 26, which facilitated the issuance of arrest and search warrants at three locations, resulting in the arrest of six suspects. The authorities seized assets, including at least two luxury cars, branded bags, and a collection of high-value motorcycles, all totaling no less than 50 million baht, for examination under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Phiwpaen, Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, stated that the investigation is still ongoing. It is suspected that Mr. M was not acting alone in laundering money from gambling sites. The other five suspects, who are either family members or part of the network, have also been charged with money laundering under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
