Cris Horwang Takes Legal Action Against Fake News Website

Bangkok: Cris Horwang, a well-known actress and model, has filed a complaint with the Cyber Police after being targeted by a fake news website. The website falsely reported her arrest for alleged unusual wealth accumulation.

According to Thai News Agency, Cris Horwang brought evidence to Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Phiwpaen, Commander of the Technology Crime Investigation Division, after the fake news surfaced. The misinformation claimed that Thai police arrested Horwang following a TV interview where she allegedly discussed her significant daily earnings and minimal investments. Cris expressed concerns that these false claims could deceive the public, prompting her to take legal action and report the issue to the authorities.

Cris Horwang stated that she was unaware if anyone had been financially harmed by the fake news. However, she emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents to prevent potential scams. She urged the public to report the fake news, as it misused her identity and could mislead people. The misleading website included a deceptive news article and a link encouraging investments. While celebrities have previously been victimized by fake news, Horwang noted that this incident was particularly severe, aiming to defraud people.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Sirawat Deepo, acting commander of the Technology Crime Investigation Division 1, revealed that the fake news website was registered on January 8th and has since been shut down. Nevertheless, investigators have gathered sufficient evidence to trace and apprehend the culprits. The Cyber Police have pledged to expedite their investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice promptly.

Pol. Lt. Col. Sirawat affirmed that the Cyber Police are dedicated to serving all citizens, regardless of their public profile, and are committed to addressing issues affecting any individual or profession.
