Complaint Filed Over Illegal Sale of Confiscated Chicken Feet

Bangkok: "Genius" has filed a complaint with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) seeking an investigation into civil servants involved in the illegal sale of confiscated chicken feet.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, President of the Crime Victim Assistance Association, has officially petitioned the Director-General of DSI to probe and prosecute high-ranking officials from the Department of Livestock Development. The complaint alleges a scheme where 1,290 tons of chicken feet, valued at over 80 million baht, were illicitly sold. These chicken feet, which were supposed to be buried following a court ruling, were reportedly diverted to a cold storage company that falsely claimed ownership rights to sell them to China.

The petition calls for an investigation under the Animal Epidemics Act B.E. 2558, concerning the evidence theft of chicken feet stored in three cold storage facilities in Samut Sakhon Province. These were initially meant to be destroyed in Phetchaburi Province. Should any violations be discovered, Mr. Atchariya has requested that the case be escalated to a special investigation status.

Mr. Atchariya disclosed that the complaint was bolstered by information from an undercover witness and detailed accounts from three out of six members of the animal carcass burial committee. These sources claim that only a portion of the chicken feet containers were genuinely buried, while the majority were smuggled and sold. Consequently, Mr. Atchariya is urging the Director-General of DSI to conduct a thorough investigation of the burial site in Phetchaburi Province and the cold storage facilities involved.
