Colorful Songkran Festival Boosts Local Economies Across Provinces


Sakon Nakhon: The Songkran Festival, celebrated across various provinces, has been marked by vibrant activities and traditional ceremonies, drawing in crowds and boosting local economies. In Sakon Nakhon, the lively atmosphere at Khlong Khuen Nam Un has led to an influx of tourists engaging in water festivities, thereby generating significant income for the local community.



According to Thai News Agency, the Nam Un Dam’s irrigation canal in Sakon Nakhon Province has become a bustling hub for families, teenagers, and young adults eager to partake in the water celebrations. The area, spanning over a kilometer along the canal, is witnessing a surge in vendors offering food, products, and water refilling services, enhancing the local economy.



Meanwhile, in Chaiyaphum Province’s Na Fai Subdistrict, a traditional Songkran water pouring ceremony was organized for the elderly across 19 villages. The event commenced with a performance by students from the Na Fai Subdistrict Administrative Organization’s Elderly School, featuring a retro circle dance that captivated attendees. The celebration also included amusing local sports competitions, such as a flour-passing contest, land golf, and a blindfolded makeup challenge, which entertained both participants and spectators.



In Ubon Ratchathani Province, the Songkran festivities continued into the second day, particularly at the Ubon Ratchathani Zoo. Visitors enjoyed a foam party alongside animal exhibits, with tickets offering opportunities to play games and win prizes. Concurrently, tourists engaged in water splashing activities on the main roads, adding to the festive spirit.
