Phitsanulok: New-generation farmers in Phitsanulok Province have transformed traditional rice fields into vibrant displays of color, creating an enticing new destination for tourists. The fields showcase a striking contrast between the pink hues of Pink Lady rice and the bright green of 107 Jumbo, Blackberry, and White Baby rice varieties. This innovative approach has turned these fields into a popular check-in point, attracting visitors eager to witness the colorful spectacle without any cost.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pink Lady rice field, now 50 days old, stands out with its beautiful color contrast against the 107 Jumbo and Blackberry varieties. This captivating rice field is part of the Phitsanulok New Generation Farmer Incubation Center, situated in Village 11, Tha Pho Subdistrict, Mueang District. The project is spearheaded by Mr. Thanakrit Phon-akkarakit, also known as Chaturong, a 36-year-old farmer who has been dedicated to rice farming since 2013.
Mr. Thanakrit shared that the pink rice fields are expected to reach their peak beauty in February. This year marks the first planting of a unique combination of Blackberry, 107 Jumbo, and White Baby varieties. Known as three-color rice, this combination presents a stunning visual display. The pink rice was developed from a mutation of black riceberry, which Mr. Thanakrit has been cultivating and experimenting with for nearly a decade to achieve the desired pink strain.
Some of the pink rice has been planted for seed collection, with plans to sell the seeds in November at approximately 5,000 baht per kilogram. The fields remain open to tourists, offering a picturesque setting for photography.
