Chulphan Amornvivat Poised to Lead Pheu Thai Party Amid Leadership Transition

Bangkok: Pheu Thai Party's meeting to select a new party leader has begun, marking a significant transition within the party. Chulphan Amornvivat is anticipated to assume the leadership role, attributed to his parliamentary work, economic acumen, and adeptness in media engagement.

According to Thai News Agency, the Pheu Thai Party convened an extraordinary annual general meeting to elect a new party leader, executive committee, and MP candidate selection committee. This follows the resignation of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister and party leader. The meeting was held privately, with no live video or audio broadcast, signaling a shift in the party's internal communication approach.

The meeting, which commenced with the arrival of key figures such as Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit and other notable members, witnessed Mr. Chulphan Amornvivat arriving with optimism. His candidacy for the leadership position has garnered widespread support within the party, particularly from Pheu Thai MPs who value his contributions and vision.

Notably, Mr. Warathep Rattanakorn, a former Minister and key figure of the Wang Bua Ban group, made an appearance, indicating potential reunification with the party. His presence underscores the ongoing political dynamics and possible strategic alliances within Pheu Thai.

The meeting also included a moment of reverence as members paid tribute to the late Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, in a gesture of respect and mourning. This event reflects the party's commitment to maintaining traditional values amidst political proceedings.

Reporters observed that Chulphan's candidacy is strongly favored due to his demonstrated leadership qualities and his ability to bridge generational divides within the party. His potential leadership is expected to play a crucial role in the forthcoming election debates, positioning Pheu Thai strategically for the elections next year.
