Cambodian Workers and Thai Nationals Rush to Cross Chong Chom Border Amid Adjusted Operating Hours

Surin: Last night, the Chong Chom border crossing in Surin Province experienced a surge in activity as Cambodian workers hurried to return to their country. This rush followed an adjustment in the border's operating hours, which also affected Thai nationals and vehicles transporting Thai goods.

According to Thai News Agency, the Chong Chom border crossing, located in Dan Subdistrict, Kap Choeng District, typically operates daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. However, the new schedule permits crossing only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This change has prompted both Cambodian workers and Thai citizens to manage their travel and transportation activities within the limited timeframe.

Only individuals with passports and border passes are permitted to cross, while the export of military equipment is restricted by law. Additionally, the export of construction materials such as cement is prohibited. Vehicles are allowed to pass under specific regulations, and humanitarian aid must comply with both regulations and international principles. The authorities have noted that the power supply must be halted if there is a significant increase in Cambodian troop presence, which could compromise safety and security. Furthermore, the border crossing is mandated to close in the event of any conflicts along the border.
