Cabinet Convenes Special Meeting to Approve Central Budget for Thai-Cambodian Border Aid

Government house: The Cabinet convened a special meeting to address the approval of the central budget dedicated to aiding seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border. Bhumtham, acting as Prime Minister in this context, has tasked various agencies with reviewing financial figures before presenting them to the Cabinet on August 5.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, who is acting as Prime Minister, announced the outcomes of the special cabinet meeting. The primary issue under discussion was the US tax burden, with Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, assigned to elaborate on the matter. Another critical topic was the revision of the criteria and procedures for utilizing the central budget to compensate those affected by violent clashes on the Thai-Cambodian border within the seven provinces. This initiative aims to cover expenses related to injuries, fatalities, disabilities, and property damage.

The special cabinet meeting accepted the resolution, delegating the Ministry of Finance, the Budget Bureau, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, and the Prime Minister's Office to examine the issue further. They are expected to report their findings at the subsequent cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 5. Should there be an immediate need for central budget allocation, it can be enacted without delay.
