Rayong: A tragic first day of school unfolded in Rayong when a school bus collided with another bus. The incident, which occurred in Ban Khai District, saw the school bus driver lose consciousness, leading to the vehicle rolling 100 meters with students on board. As the bus rolled, students fell down the back steps, resulting in injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, the accident took place at 7:30 a.m. in front of Wat Map Tong. CCTV footage captured the vehicle's uncontrolled movement until it hit a trash can, preventing it from falling into a nearby canal. The driver, a 60-year-old woman, lost consciousness upon collision and despite CPR attempts, she tragically passed away.
All 23 students on the bus sustained injuries, with some covered in blood and one found unconscious on the road. Parents, shocked and concerned, rushed to the scene upon receiving the news. Witnesses expressed relief that the trash can halted the bus's movement, averting a potential disaster.
Mr. Paeng, 59, a shuttle bus driver, recounted driving from Ban Khai District with 20 employees from Nong Lalok when the school bus suddenly emerged from an alley. He was unable to brake in time, resulting in a collision with the driver's side of the bus.
