Ubon ratchathani: Officials from the Department of Social Development and Human Security have requested the Forestry Police to investigate 'Johnny the Enforcer,' a well-known influencer, for allegedly building a resort that encroaches on the Lam Dom Noi Self-Reliance Settlement. Access to the area was reportedly restricted under threat.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Watchara Kosento, a social development specialist, was authorized by Mr. Kantapong Rangsisawang, Director-General of the Department of Social Development and Welfare, to submit documentary evidence to the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NRECD). The complaint aims to prosecute Pol. Lt. Yuthaphon, also known as 'Johnny the Enforcer,' a former police officer turned influencer, for constructing a resort on the Lam Dom Noi self-reliant settlement in the Kham Khuen Kaeo Subdistrict, Sirindhorn District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
Mr. Watchara disclosed that the Department of Social Development received reports from the Lam Dom Noi Self-Help Settlement about unauthorized land use by an individual. The encroached area, reserved as a common forest, covers approximately 1 rai of land, and the resort's construction began in 2021. Despite a suspension order issued in 2022, the resort owner allegedly ignored it and even threatened officials.
The Lam Dom Noi Self-Help Settlement spans an area of 24,675 rai, as per the Royal Decree, and aims to provide a living space and stable careers for the people. Permission is required to use the land, and title deeds can only be issued after obtaining authorization from the Director-General of the Department of Social Development and Welfare. However, initial investigations revealed no such permission was granted to 'Johnny the Enforcer.'
Pol. Col. Watcharin Phusit, Commander of the NRECD, stated that investigators have accepted the complaint against 'Johnny the Enforcer' for encroaching on a reserved forest area under Section 15 of the Land Allocation for Living Act. The NRECD will verify if there have been prior complaints and proceed with the investigation accordingly. Coordination with local police and relevant agencies will help determine the extent of the encroachment and any legal violations.
The investigation will include examining aerial photographs and interviewing local leaders to establish the timeline and source of the encroachment. 'Johnny the Enforcer' will be summoned for questioning, and cooperation is expected. If he is uncooperative, a search warrant will be executed. The police assure a fair investigation, offering both parties a chance to present their case.
