Bangkok: Villagers in the Selaphum District are celebrating as the breach in the flood barrier at Ban Sai Mun has been successfully closed. Officials from various agencies, along with the support of over 200 villagers, swiftly mobilized to repair the damage and prevent further flooding. According to Thai News Agency, the breach at the river embankment in Ban Sai Mun, Khwao Subdistrict, led to floodwaters inundating rice fields, affecting over 5,000 rai across three subdistricts. The immediate response was spearheaded by Roi Et Governor Chatchawan Benjasiriwong, who coordinated the efforts of local officials and residents. The repair operation involved a combination of manpower and machinery, including sand trucks and big bags to block the cracks. To reinforce the foundation, 16 power poles were strategically placed across the affected area, accompanied by large logs to mitigate the force of the current. A backhoe was utilized to add an additional layer of sandbags on top, bolstering the defense line. By 5: 00 PM yesterday, the breach was effectively sealed. Governor Benjasiriwong has since instructed community leaders to establish monitoring teams to watch for any signs of further flooding. With forecasts indicating potential flooding within the next week, he stressed the importance of vigilant monitoring and rapid reinforcement measures.
