Brave Woman Reclaims Stolen Car After Year-Long Search

Bangkok: A courageous woman took matters into her own hands when she jumped off a motorcycle taxi and pursued her own vehicle on foot after a year-long search. Her car, which had been missing for over a year, was discovered being used by her close friend's boyfriend as collateral with a creditor.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident gained attention when a clip was shared on social media showing a woman in a striped shirt chasing a white sedan while calling for help. Bystanders quickly surrounded the car, prompting the driver to turn into an alley to address the situation before it escalated. The woman in the clip later explained that she had purchased the sedan with a Khon Kaen license plate around May 2024 and had left it parked at a condo in the Huai Khwang area, which was the residence of her best friend's boyfriend. Despite repeated requests for the return of her car, she was met with excuses and eventually filed a complaint with the Huai Khwang Police Station on May 1, 2024.

After a year of unsuccessful searches, she resorted to using a blank key. On the day of the incident, while taking a motorcycle taxi to meet a friend, she spotted her car on Pracharat Bamphen Road. Recognizing the license plate, she jumped off the taxi and chased the car, attempting to stop the male driver, who was later identified as Chinese. Despite her efforts, the driver continued, prompting her to call for help, resulting in the viral clip.

The police summoned the Chinese man for questioning, where he claimed that the car's owner, a close friend, owed him 250,000 baht and had used the car as collateral. It was discovered that the vehicle was damaged, leading to negotiations for the Chinese man to repair it. The repair costs were to be estimated on Monday, May 19, 2015. Meanwhile, the woman plans to file a lawsuit against her close friend.

Witnesses at the scene initially feared a kidnapping and rushed to assist the woman. They recorded the incident as evidence and communicated with the driver, who spoke Chinese, before involving the police to mediate the situation.
