Bomb Attack on Rangers in Narathiwat Province Leaves One Dead and Five Injured

Narathiwat: The perpetrators planted a bomb while the guerrilla soldiers were patrolling on foot along the Si Sakhon-Chanae road in Narathiwat Province, resulting in 1 death and 5 injuries.

According to Thai News Agency, eight rangers from the 4916th Ranger Company were patrolling on foot along the roadside to return to their base to exchange forces. They arrived on the Si Sakhon-Chanae road at the Ban Lao bridgehead, Village 2, Tambon Si Banphot, Amphoe Si Sakhon, Narathiwat Province. The perpetrators placed a 5 kg. improvised explosive device in a metal box, detonated by remote control, at the base of an electrical pole, and hid in the dense forest.

The detonator caused the explosion, causing Volunteer Defense Corps Amru, who was walking at the forefront, to be hit by shrapnel and lose his left leg. Five other soldiers who were walking behind were also injured, causing the rangers to shoot randomly in the dense forest along the roadside to prevent the perpetrators from shooting again. They coordinated to send him to Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Hospital, but Volunteer Defense Corps Amru later died.
