“Big Lek” Clarifies Stance Amid Reshuffle Rumors: Commitment to Team Thailand Reaffirmed

Bangkok: "Big Lek," or Gen. Nattapol Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Defense, has denied sending any signals about leaving his ministerial position, emphasizing that he merely shared ideas with Team Thailand and remains fully committed to his responsibilities. He clarified that he is unaware of any cabinet reshuffle plans, attributing such matters to the political domain.

According to Thai News Agency, Gen. Nattapol addressed the controversy surrounding a statement he made during a meeting of the Center for the Special Operations Command of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation (COCSB). He apologized for any misunderstandings, explaining that his remarks were intended for committee members and juniors within the meeting room, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the peace and security of the border rather than political issues.

When questioned about the implications of a leaked audio clip, Gen. Nattapol clarified that his comments were not directed at the prime minister specifically. He explained that his metaphor about a "single shot" was meant to emphasize the broader goal of national development, highlighting that Thailand's progress should not be hindered. He noted that these were personal reflections or party ideas, rather than an official statement.

Gen. Nattapol reiterated that his advice was meant solely for those present in the meeting room and not for public consumption. He emphasized the need for Team Thailand to concentrate on their duties without external distractions, urging the media not to cause unnecessary concern for the army's role in protecting national sovereignty.

In response to questions about his commitment to his role and the possibility of stepping down, Gen. Nattapol affirmed his dedication, stating he remains committed to his duties "100 percent." Regarding his future in the Cabinet, he refrained from commenting, indicating that such decisions were subject to political developments.

Addressing inquiries about the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (RTSC), Gen. Nattapol expressed that he was uninformed about the party's stance and that it was a matter for the party to decide.
