Krathum Baen: Metropolitan Police Investigation led a team to arrest a large illegal firearms trading gang in the Krathum Baen area, finding many war weapons and ammunition. Last night, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police led a team of Metropolitan Police and Samut Sakhon police to arrest Mr. Phatthakon (surname withheld), 28 years old, on charges of illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition that the registrar could not issue a license for. The arrest was made at Soi Santipricha, Don Kai Dee Subdistrict, Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon Province. According to Thai News Agency, the evidence found included one firearm (M 79), 5-6 AK47s, 17 magazines, approximately 8,000 rounds of 7.62 caliber ammunition, and approximately 500 rounds of M 60 caliber ammunition. This arrest was a result of a crackdown on influential figures and arms smugglers. From checking Mr. Phattharakon's background, he was previously charged with illegal possession of firearms in Nonthaburi Province. Therefore, they w ere investigating this gun-trafficking gang. Previously, they had searched the suspect's house but found no evidence. Until they learned that there would be weapons smuggling, they followed him and searched his car, where they found weapons. From questioning, the suspect confessed that he received all the firearms from Aranyaprathet, brought them to a rest stop in Krathum Baen, and then sold them to their destinations.
