Bangkok: Ajarn Sukhum points out that the opening of the new opposition Bhumjaithai Party was a good one. Ajarn Sukhum said that the new opposition Bhumjaithai Party had a good start, with the government almost losing and the House collapsing. He said that it was weaker than when the two parties, the People's Party and the Palang Pracharath Party, were the opposition parties due to the narrow margin of votes. He suggested that Bhumjaithai accept being the underdog and the status of each party. He waited to see the no-confidence debate.
According to Thai News Agency, Assoc. Prof. Sukhum Nuansakul, former president of Ramkhamhaeng University, talked about the work of the opposition parties after the Bhumjaithai Party joined the first meeting of the House of Representatives as the new opposition party. He personally thought that the meeting would fail, but they changed the game by closing the House of Representatives first before counting the quorum by calling names on an individual basis, as proposed by the government MPs. However, he viewed that both the Prachachon Party and the Bhumjaithai Party were new to working together. Previously, the Bhumjaithai Party may have thought that it would become the main opposition party, which it had to review itself and accept that the Prachachon Party was the leader of the opposition. Therefore, the news that was previously announced that it would open a no-confidence motion must be discussed first. It is not a secondary party that sets it up as the main party and expects cooperation from the leading par ty. The opposition parties themselves must also accept the status of each party. Currently, there are 3 major political parties that are the opposition party: the Prachachon Party, the Bhumjaithai Party, and the Palang Pracharath Party. The Bhumjaithai Party will have to adjust itself a bit. As for itself in the opposition party, it must be the supporting actor because it is the second-hand, not the first-hand. However, we have to wait and see during the no-confidence motion.
As for the joint agreement of the opposition parties on 4 issues, Assoc. Prof. Sukhum stated that it would be to point out and accept that it is appropriate to dissolve the parliament, but there are conditions such as amending the constitution. If this is the case, the Prachachon Party will have to accept that they are in the same group. All parties will have to adjust.
As for whether the opposition will be more intensive now that the Bhumjaithai Party is a newcomer, Assoc. Prof. Sukhum said that the intensity will be effective, depending on the government's slim majority, which must be maintained throughout. Today, the government is weaker than when the Prachachon and Palang Pracharath parties were the only opposition parties, because there is a factor of MPs' votes in the House. When Bhumjaithai became the opposition, the work was more efficient and the quorum could be checked at all times.
"Look at the opposition working together well. Once they have settled down, we will see whether they will accept the leadership or not. We will have to wait and see what happens next. But today was a good start. The government almost lost and the parliament collapsed," said Assoc. Prof. Sukhum.
