Bhumjaithai Party to Field Candidates in Bueng Kan By-Election After Court Disqualification

Bueng Kan: Bhumjaithai Party is set to field candidates for the upcoming by-election in Bueng Kan, following the Supreme Court's decision to disqualify Suwanna Kumpiro from running for election for 10 years. The party has urged Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra to refrain from allowing the Pheu Thai Party to contest the election.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, who leads the Bhumjaithai Party, stated that the by-election in Bueng Kan's Constituency 2 will replace Suwanna Kumpiro. Although the party has not yet finalized discussions due to current engagements, Anutin emphasized that the Bhumjaithai Party will send a candidate. The party has more than a month to prepare, with Mr. Songsak Thongsri, the Deputy Minister of Interior, and his wife, who is the president of the provincial administrative organization, managing the campaign in the area.

Anutin mentioned that discussions regarding whether coalition parties will enter candidates have not occurred. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra for indicating that the Pheu Thai Party would not send candidates, highlighting the mutual respect between party leaders.

Regarding the party's confidence in regaining the seat, Anutin noted that finding a trustworthy candidate is crucial. He also mentioned that the decision on whether he will assist in campaigning will depend on the evolving situation.
