Bank of Thailand Advocates Digital Donations for Temples to Curb Fund Misuse

Bangkok: The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is urging temples to adopt digital systems for receiving donations as a measure to prevent the misuse of funds. The BOT emphasizes the importance of integrating these systems with good governance practices to enhance transparency and accountability.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Daranee Saeju, the Assistant Governor of Payment Systems Supervision and Financial Consumer Protection at the BOT, highlighted the significance of digitalizing donation processes. She pointed out that using systems such as e-Donation, available on PromptPay, allows for better tracking of funds, enhancing security and reducing the likelihood of misuse.

Ms. Saeju further explained that the implementation of digital systems should be accompanied by robust management practices. This includes ensuring that those handling the funds, as well as auditors, adhere to principles of good governance. The BOT believes that through digitization, temples can achieve greater transparency regarding their financial activities.
