Bangkok Progresses with Debris Removal Efforts Amid Hopes for Survivors

Bangkok: Bangkok continues to move forward, 21 truckloads of debris have been removed. The Bangkok governor still hopes there will be survivors - stresses the hygiene of officials.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, provided an update before attending the Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting at the Airavat Development Building, Bangkok City Hall 2, Din Daeng. He discussed the ongoing demolition of the collapsed Office of the Auditor General building. The operation is focused on removing concrete slabs and debris from Zone E, the top section of the site. Heavy machinery is being utilized at full capacity, and approximately 26,000 cubic meters of debris have been cleared using 21 trucks. The governor expects the top portion of the site to be cleared by the end of April.

The Bangkok governor remains hopeful for the possibility of finding survivors. He underscored the continuous operation of machinery and highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene for all staff involved. Officials are provided with essential amenities, including food and air-conditioned accommodations. Strict hygiene measures, such as handwashing and disinfectant spraying, are enforced due to the crowded working environment. The health department conducts regular inspections to ensure staff safety. The withdrawal of the USAR and K9 teams is part of the planned operations, and heavy machinery remains the primary tool in the ongoing efforts.
