Rayong: Revealed amidst a scandal, Phra Pariyatthada, assistant abbot of Wat Kalayanamit, has been disrobed in Rayong Province following allegations of involvement with a female golfer. The controversy has stirred discussions among monks, with some insisting on remaining in their roles, claiming their involvement was not profound. Phra Pariyatthada reportedly disrobed at a temple in Rayong at 9:00 a.m., confirming rumors of his departure. According to Thai News Agency, Phra Phawana Wiriyakun, another monk entangled in the controversy, remains firm in his decision not to disrobe. Known as Phra Ajahn Sai, he was transferred to Wat Chaiyamongkol in Phitsanulok in 2019. He explained his interactions with Ms. Golf, who contacted him in 2023 for life advice. She claimed to face severe financial difficulties, prompting Phra Ajahn Sai to transfer funds out of compassion, totaling around 180,000 baht. Phra Bhavanaviriyakhun emphasized that he never met Ms. Golf, nor did he have any personal relationship with her. Hi s actions were driven by pity, and he welcomed investigations into the matter. He reflected on his actions, stating that helping others comes with risks but was done out of human compassion. Meanwhile, in Phichit, Phra Thep Watchara Sitthimethi, the provincial abbot, faced rumors of involvement in the scandal but affirmed his innocence. He stated he would not disrobe and was prepared to cooperate with authorities. His lawyer supported his claims, asserting his readiness to undergo DNA testing to disprove allegations of having a child. The ongoing investigations and responses from the monks highlight the complexities of the situation, with key figures maintaining their innocence while addressing the public and authorities.
