Buriram: Army Region 2 has provided an update on the combat situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, indicating that both sides are maintaining their positions amid heavy rainfall.
According to Thai News Agency, the Army Area 2 Operations Center reported that the situation has remained relatively unchanged since noon, with both parties continuing to deploy forces amidst challenging weather conditions.
Evacuations are ongoing, with thousands being relocated to safer zones within the inner regions of four provinces. In Buriram Province, 8,363 individuals have been moved to one civilian gathering area. Surin Province has seen 39,350 people evacuated to 65 safe zones, Sisaket Province has relocated 35,009 individuals to 82 areas, and Ubon Ratchathani Province has facilitated the evacuation of 14,709 people to 76 gathering zones. Overall, 97,431 people have been evacuated, marking an increase of 9,393 individuals.
There have been reports of BM-21 rockets falling 28 times in Buriram Province, specifically in Ban Nong Thanon, Kok Wan Subdistrict, and Ban Sai To areas, yet no civilian casualties have been reported. Royal Volunteers have been actively assisting those affected, with 904 royal volunteers and a total of 2,480 public volunteers aiding in temporary shelters and providing necessary information and assistance.
In response to the situation, royal kitchens have been established across the affected provinces. Buriram hosts one royal kitchen and two food trucks, while Surin has set up three royal kitchens and two food trucks at educational institutions. Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani have also established similar facilities. From July 24 to 26, a total of 100,100 rice boxes were distributed to those in need.
Volunteers are playing a crucial role in receiving donations of supplies, food, and drinks from government agencies, private entities, and citizens. Contributions are being managed and distributed to those in temporary shelters by volunteers from neighboring provinces.
The Royal Thai Army has reported the loss of one soldier, Private First Class Yanapat, assigned to the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 3rd Regiment. In a somber ceremony, the 25th Military Circle honored the sacrifice of three soldiers who lost their lives in defense of the nation's sovereignty.
