According to Thai News Agency, the First Army Area Operations Center received a report from the Burapha Task Force regarding Mr. Wira Somkwamkit, President of the Anti-Corruption People's Network. Mr. Wira led a group of people, equipped with machinery, to dismantle structures claimed to be infringing on the Ban Nong Chan area by Cambodian forces in Sa Kaeo Province. The protest, involving approximately 70-80 people and five vehicles, aimed to assert Thai sovereignty and aligned with public efforts to protect national territory.
Administrative officials and riot control police engaged with the protesters, urging them not to proceed further into the contested area. Around 1:00 PM, protesters intended to advance into the controlled zone, prompting riot control efforts to maintain order. By 1:30 PM, authorities summoned Mr. Wira and other leaders to a meeting at Khok Sung Police Station to negotiate an end to the protest, prioritizing the safety of all involved and preventing potential escalation. Officials emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to safeguard local populations and prevent conflicts that could provoke opposing forces.
Support was extended to military, police, and local administrative officials by some protesters, who expressed their commitment to supporting law enforcement in fulfilling their duties. At 2:00 PM, after discussions with officials, Mr. Wira was recognized as a public representative by the 1st Army Region. He was tasked with monitoring the progress of efforts to protect Thai sovereignty in the Nong Chan and Nong Ya Kaeo villages, collaborating with security forces as a patriotic citizen.
The First Army Region reiterated its readiness to maintain order and welcome peaceful demonstrations of patriotism and sovereignty. Their ongoing mission is to ensure public safety and protect national sovereignty effectively.
