Phnom penh: Anutin held bilateral talks with Hun Sen to proceed according to the statement, emphasizing 4 conditions for peace and safety of the people. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul held bilateral discussions with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The Prime Minister thanked the Cambodian Prime Minister for his letter of condolence on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized that the signing of the Joint Declaration on October 26th provides a foundation for the two countries to move forward, but most importantly, it must be implemented seriously and sincerely. Today's discussions therefore focus on the need for both countries to work together to quickly implement the agreement.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of four agreed upon issues to reduce border tensions: withdrawing heavy weapons from border areas and returning them to their normal locations; clearing mines; suppressing transnational crime syndicates, particularly scammers; and managing border areas.
The process of withdrawing heavy weapons has already begun. However, Thailand wants to see a serious and continuous withdrawal of heavy weapons to ensure the safety of people in border areas. Thailand also wants to intensify coordination for compliance in other matters, particularly coordination on transnational crime suppression, landmine clearance, and compliance with border management agreements.
On this occasion, the two Prime Ministers also discussed ways to increase diplomatic communication, with the Foreign Ministers of both sides being assigned to meet and discuss matters as soon as possible.
Both Prime Ministers also agreed that the two to three days following the signing of the declaration are crucial for Thailand, the people, and the media in both countries to closely monitor the progress of implementing the declaration. Therefore, it is the responsibility of both sides to demonstrate concrete progress in implementing the agreement with sincerity and honesty to ensure the security and safety of our people.
