Anutin Charnvirakul Highlights Popularity Amid Bilateral Talks at ASEAN Summit

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand's Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, recently emphasized his growing popularity after several world leaders requested bilateral talks during the ASEAN Summit. He noted that the atmosphere of the summit was significantly better compared to previous government administrations. Anutin also mentioned that he is still in the process of signing the draft agreement on Thai-Cambodian relations, assuring that Thailand's sovereignty will not be compromised.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin was interviewed about his trip to Malaysia for the ASEAN Summit, specifically regarding the possibility of signing a trade agreement with the United States. He clarified that while no agreement has been signed yet, the overall atmosphere of the trip was positive, and there was a noticeable improvement compared to past visits. Anutin highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed him about the numerous country leaders intending to meet with him to discuss various issues, including economics, security, politics, and trade. To ensure productive negotiations, he expressed his commitment to preparing thoroughly for these discussions.

In terms of the draft declaration on Thai-Cambodian relations, Anutin stated that progress is being made. Preliminary negotiations involved the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC), and senior officials, who have all agreed on four main points. Addressing social media reports that suggested otherwise, Anutin clarified through reporters that the signing of the agreement is based on formal agreements between the countries' leaders and not on unverified social media claims. He emphasized the importance of reviewing and amending official documents to ensure that Thailand's dignity and sovereignty remain intact.
