Anutin Approves Community Electricity Project After Meeting with Energy Minister

Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has announced the approval of a community electricity project following discussions with the Minister of Energy. This initiative will permit communities to independently sell electricity, with plans to present it to the Cabinet on October 28. Anutin emphasized that the project is expected to boost economic distribution across the country.

According to Thai News Agency, the community electricity project is designed to help reduce electricity bills and living costs nationwide. Proposed by the Ministry of Energy, the project will produce electricity from solar farms distributed across various regions. The implementation will involve local administrative organizations, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), with collaboration from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Finance.

The project plans to establish solar farms with a capacity of no more than 10 megawatts per community, providing cheaper electricity options for the public. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will deliver electricity at special rates to these communities once the power plants are operational.

In addition to the community electricity project, Anutin mentioned a second initiative involving a solar water pumping system. This system will be implemented in irrigation systems and village waterworks nationwide, aiming to reduce production costs for water consumption using solar power. This initiative will also help distribute investment funds throughout the economy, aligning with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanpraphas's Quick BIG WIN policy. Anutin confirmed that he has approved the projects in principle and plans to present them at the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
