‘Angkabob’ Grilled Stuffed Frog Becomes Must-Try Dish in Prasat District

Bangkok: Delicious and must-try 'Ang Gae Bop' or grilled stuffed frog, a famous menu of Prasat District, Surin Province, with a fragrant aroma of herbs. Anyone passing by must stop and buy some.

According to Thai News Agency, Angkaebob, a local Khmer name in Surin Province, means grilled stuffed frog or grilled frog. It is a famous food of Nong Yai Subdistrict, Prasat District, Surin Province. In Nong Yai Subdistrict, this menu is widely sold, to the point that it has become a famous local food menu of Prasat District at this time.

Angkaebbob is made by peeling the skin of a field frog or a farmed frog, then chopping and mixing it with seasonings such as basil leaves, lemongrass, chili, garlic, shallots, pepper, and various seasonings. Then stuff the frog back into the body. Then skewer it on bamboo and grill it over a charcoal stove with low heat until cooked. This is the result of a local specialty, Angkaebbob, or 'grilled stuffed frog' that has a delicious flavor and the aroma of various herbs.

Phi Pawina, the owner of the shop that makes angkae bob, said that angkae bob is now more well-known. Many vendors make it for sale. The main center is Nong Yai Community Market on Highway 412, Prasat-Chong Chom, about 8 kilometers from Prasat District. It is well known that many vendors sell it here, and tourists passing by will stop by to buy some to eat. The price is not expensive, only 60 baht per stick (equivalent to 2 frogs). In addition to grilled stuffed frogs, tourists who come to this market also have a variety of community products to choose from, such as fried frog skin and various chili pastes, local food menus made by the villagers and brought to sell, as well as vegetables and fruits sent directly from organic farmers.
