Chiang Rai: Soldiers from the 4th Cavalry Regiment of the Chao Tak Army Special Forces clashed with a drug trafficking gang in the border region of Koh Chang Subdistrict, Mae Sai District. The confrontation resulted in the seizure of 600,000 methamphetamine pills as evidence. The incident unfolded during a routine patrol by the soldiers near Ban Sanna, approximately 1 kilometer from the Ruak River.
According to Thai News Agency, the soldiers encountered 8-10 individuals carrying backpacks at the border. Upon identifying themselves and requesting to search the group, the soldiers were met with gunfire from an unknown firearm, triggering a five-minute exchange. The drug traffickers eventually retreated, abandoning three bags filled with methamphetamine pills.
The seized drugs have been transported to Koh Chang Police Station for further legal proceedings. The operation marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
