PM receives delegation of leading Dutch enterprises


Hanoi: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on March 19 emphasised that Vietnam will create favourable conditions for the business community, including Dutch corporations and businesses, to invest successfully, sustainably, and long-term in Vietnam when he received a Dutch business delegation led by Ingrid Thijssen, chair of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) in Hanoi.

Welcoming the delegation, PM Chinh said that their visit to Vietnam this time is an activity in implementing the results achieved during the visit of the Prime Minister of Vietnam to the Netherlands at the end of 2022 and the visit of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands to Vietnam at the end of 2023.

The PM highlighted that the Netherlands has become the biggest European investor and the second-largest European trade partner and export market of Vietnam. He hailed the practical programmes that the Netherlands has implemented to support Vietnam in socio-economic development, poverty reduction, education and training,
healthcare, climate change responses, and COVID-19 prevention and control.

PM Chinh said that he highly appreciated the business activities of Dutch enterprises in Vietnam in the past time which contributed to Vietnam’s economic development and Vietnam – Netherlands relations.

He affirmed that Vietnam is always open, sincere, and willing to listen to the concerns and opinions of the foreign business community, including Dutch businesses.

Informing the guests about Vietnam’s development priorities, the PM said that Vietnam and the Netherlands still have many potentials and strengths that can complement and support each other. Therefore, he called on Dutch corporations and businesses to effectively take advantage of the opportunities of the Vietnam – EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and strive to increase bilateral trade to 15 billion USD.

He hoped that Dutch businesses will connect with Vietnamese businesses in fields where the Netherlands has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as high-tech agriculture, n
ew energy, renewable energy, semiconductor chips, climate change adaptation, shipbuilding services, seaports, shipbuilding technology, and logistics.

Chinh also asked Dutch businesses to make recommendations to Vietnam regarding how to improve the business investment environment, institutions, mechanisms, and policies to encourage businesses to apply sustainable business models, develop emerging industries, and develop a digital economy, green and circular economy, and high-quality human resources training.

The Dutch business executives requested the Vietnamese Government to continue to improving policies on taxes, visas, and administrative procedures.

They asked for specific contact points to receive support, transfer technology, and promote cooperation in the fields of shipbuilding, seaports, semiconductors, renewable energy, environmental protection, climate change response, and materials supply to Vietnam’s project on building 1 million social housing.

The businesses also hoped the Government to direc
t Vietnamese businesses, especially in the agricultural and food sectors, to improve product quality and implement commitments to green, clean, safe, and sustainable development. They want to purchase directly from farmers so that Vietnamese agricultural products have more opportunities to enter the Netherlands./.

HCM City eyes to expand tourism cooperation with Japanese prefecture


HCM City: Following their successes in cooperation over the past five decades, Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, and Japan need to immediately implement cooperation projects to mark the first year of the next 50-year period of cooperation, said Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.

Mai made the suggestion a reception on March 19 for Hirose Noriko, Tourism Ambassador of HCM City in Aichi prefecture, during which they discussed orientations for tourism cooperation activities between the southern largest economic hub and the Japanese prefecture.

He said the Vietnam Festival in Aichi, which is scheduled to be held in November 2024, will be one of the cultural events that need to be prioritised for organisation.

The official thanked the Governor of Aichi for creating favourable conditions for organising the festival, affirming that in this year’s event, HCM City will deeply join cultural and artistic activities, introduce Vietnamese cuisine, and promote trade, investment and tourism con
nection.

He expressed his belief that Noriko will continue to promote her role as a bridge promoting HCM City’s tourism to businesses and people of Aichi, thus helping to boost tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges to further strengthen cohesion and deepen the relationship between the two localities in particular, and between Vietnam and Japan in general.

For her part, Noriko showed her joy at the success of the Vietnam Festival in Aichi and the Vietnam – Japan Festival in HCM City last year, saying that they contributed to enhancing understanding, solidarity, and friendship between the people of the two countries.

Aichi is home to the largest number of Vietnamese nationals in Japan with more than 51,000 people. Therefore, the Vietnamese Festival in the Japanese prefecture always attracts the attention and participation of many tourists.

The success of the Vietnam Festival is also a lesson to help Aichi confidently organise more cultural festivals in the future, she added.

Speaking highly of
the potential for tourism cooperation between HCM City and Aichi, Noriko pledged to do her best as the tourism ambassador of HCM City in Aichi./.

Military parade to mark 70th anniversrary of Dien Bien Phu Victory


Hanoi: A grand military parade will be held at Dien Bien province’s stadium on May 7 morning in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, according to the Ministry of Defence.

During the event, 18 cannons, including 15 official and three stand-by units, and 12 helicopters, including nine official, two stand-by, and one for search and rescue, will be used.

The parade will be the highlight among a series of activities to mark the anniversary, contributing to affirming the significance, stature, and historical value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the continuous development and growth of the Vietnam People’s Army, the Militia and Self-Defence Force and the People’s Police Force over the past 70 years under the Party’s leadership.

On March 13, 1954, the Vietnamese revolutionary army launched the first attack against the French colonialists’ heavily fortified base of Dien Bien Phu, starting a 56-day historic campaign whose victory directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on end
ing the war and restoring peace in Indochina.

During the 56 days of undaunted, brave, and creative fighting, the Vietnamese army and people created the Dien Bien Phu Victory that ‘resounded across the five continents and shook the globe’.

President Ho Chi Minh affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory was a golden milestone in history that created the foundation and conditions for the Vietnamese people to secure victory in the resistance war against the US, liberate the South, and reunify the country in 1975./.

VNU-Hanoi, Huyndai Motor sign training pact


Hanoi: In a move to bolster engineering and technology education, Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi and Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) on March 19 signed a cooperation agreement on human resources development.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VNU-Hanoi Director Le Quan expressed his belief that the deal will significantly enhance the quality of engineering and technology education and research at the university. This, he said, will directly address the growing demand for skilled workers in the automotive industry and related sectors, ultimately contributing to the economic and scientific-technological development of both Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Head of business unit at Hyundai Vietnam Gi Baek Lee highlighted the existing relationship between the two sides. He pointed to a 2020 memorandum of understanding signed with VNU-Hanoi’s University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) for volunteer education activities in the Hyundai-Jump School programme.

Over the past four years, Hyu
ndai Motor has assisted about 200 students from the VNU-Hanoi, primarily those from ULIS, he added.

Under the new agreement, both sides will establish the VNU-HMC cooperation office located in Hoa Lac to facilitate joint activities, including internship opportunities for VNU-Hanoi’s top talents at Hyundai Motor Group headquarters, lectures by esteemed international scholars, and collaborative research projects fostering mutual benefit.

The VNU-Hanoi has a history of successful partnerships in education and scientific research with leading Korean institutions like Seoul National University and technological giants such as Samsung, LG, Hyundai, and SK. Its graduates in sci-tech and engineering disciplines have garnered recognition and secured prestigious positions in Korean technology and industrial conglomerates operating in Vietnam./.
