Facilitate granting of permits for arts, sports events: President

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on regional authorities to facilitate the granting of permits for arts and sports events, such as musical concerts and football matches, to bolster public spending. He said that he had met governors, deputy governors, and regional secretaries for such permit granting matters.

“(I say) do not restrict because it is related to public spending. Let the public spend (their money) to watch musical concerts or football matches,” the president stated, as observed from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.

t the 2023 Association of Indonesian Provincial Governments (APPSI) National Working Meeting in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Thursday, Jokowi said he had projected three thousand arts and sports events to take place this year following the end of the COVID-19 activities restriction.

Such events must be encouraged by regional authorities, as they could drive economic development by bolstering public spending, he affirmed.

The president noted that public savings worth Rp690 trillion were idling in banks, as residents controlled their expenses, especially during the activities restriction enforcement.

He also reminded governors of their obligation to maintain and increase household consumption.

To this end, Jokowi expressed optimism that by 2024, the public consumption rate would reach 5.4 percent, increasing from 4.93 percent in 2022.

Moreover, he urged regional authorities to expedite the granting of permits for arts and sports events, as event organizers complained that they often received the permit only as late as mere days before the event’s D-day despite months of preparations being needed.

“A problem (that I noticed) after meeting event organizers is that our speed in granting permits is low. The permits were granted only two or three days before the event’s D-day,” Jokowi stated.

The president suggested regional authorities issue the event permit at least two months before the event day to ensure event organizers have more time to plan and promote their agenda.

Widodo expresses optimism over new capital development

This is not a project (that will be completed in) 2 to 5 years. It can take 10 to 15 years

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo on Thursday expressed his optimism over the commencement of the new capital Nusantara’s construction and plans for holding the 79th Independence Day ceremony on August 17, 2024, at the completed capital.”I just want to convey an optimism that the new capital construction has begun on its infrastructure, office buildings, and here as well, the ministers’ accommodation,” the President remarked while visiting the ministers’ housing development site in East Kalimantan on Thursday.

The housing area consists of 36 houses for cabinet ministers and is expected to be completed by June 2024.

The start of Nusantara city’s physical construction and its continued progress will dispel remaining doubts that any residents harbor toward the new capital’s development, he emphasized.

“Hence, if anyone remains doubtful (regarding the new capital’s development), the on-site (construction) has progressed like this anyway,” he said.

The development of the new capital is a long-term process and will require at least 10 to 15 years, a timeframe common for other countries that have relocated their new capital, he added.

“This is not a project (that will be completed in) 2 to 5 years. It can take 10 to 15 years, and other countries who decided to relocate (their capital) also completed their development according to the time range that I have stated,” he said.

In line with Widodo’s determination, Nusantara Capital Authority head Bambang Susantono earlier said that he expects the new capital to host the 79th Independence Day ceremony in 2024. He added that he will make efforts to realize the goal.

During a hearing meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on February 6, 2023, the authority head called for support and prayers for the smooth development of the new capital and its on-time completion.

He also affirmed that his side is continuing to optimize the work plans of the Nusantara Capital Authority to implement Law No. 3 of 2022 on the National Capital.

Infrastructure no longer key issue in building EV ecosystem: ministry

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Infrastructure is no longer the main concern regarding the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem development in the country, an official from the Transportation Ministry said at the 2023 IMS here on Thursday.s long as general electric vehicle charging stations exist, it would not be an issue, road transportation facilities director at the ministry, Danto Restyawan, said.

ccording to Restyawan, in the future, there will be routine policies mandating all government offices to set up charging stations for EV users.

The biggest problem facing EVs right now is trust in electric vehicles, he said. This trust revolves around EVs’ resale value in comparison to conventional vehicles.

When it comes to ordinary vehicles, there is usually a resale value, but when it comes to EVs, people are still unsure whether it exists or not, he explained.

This mindset needs to be changed in order to expedite the transition toward electric vehicles, he opined.

This is because this mindset played a role in the government’s failure to meet the sales target for two-wheeled EV vehicles the previous year, he said.

In the previous year, the government had set the sales target for EV vehicles at above 100 thousand units, but only 30 thousand units were sold.

Despite this, the support from various motorcycle factories has been very positive. Since 2019, at least 9 electric motorcycle factories have registered with the association.

Moreover, the number of electric motorcycles sold from 2019 to 2022 exceeded more than 30,837 units.

In 2022, there was a significant increase with 53 factories registered with the association, according to the data provided by the Industry Ministry.

Investment licensing should be completed within hours: President

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called for completing matters pertaining to investment licensing within hours and not months as was currently occurring.”Check again regarding the ease of licensing, check again, because in practice, we are still taking a long time. We are still in the 260-day figure. We are still taking a long time. The calculation should be if there is a permit, in this digital age, it should be hours, not months,” the president emphasized.

President Widodo made the statement in his directives during the 2023 National Working Meeting of the Association of Indonesian Provincial Governments (APPSI) in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Thursday, as monitored online from Jakarta.

The president spoke of having repeatedly cautioned about the investment climate. According to Widodo, investment is the key to economic growth for all countries.

“Right now, the most important aspect is how the investment comes in. All countries are fighting over what is called investment, no country is (not fighting over it), all are fighting over investment,” he pointed out.

He urged the governors to check the ease of licensing process in their respective regions.

The president is keen to ensure that new investment permits should not come out after months. He believes that through digitalization, investment licensing should be made easier and faster.

“At the latest, yes (a matter of) days, hours if possible. How does digitization in permits exist in all provinces, regencies, and cities,” he stated.
