E Java targets 1.5 million MSME products certified as halal in 2022

Surabaya, E Java The East Java Provincial Government has targeted as many as 1.5 million products owned by local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) to receive halal certificates in 2022.

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, in her remarks at the “Proud of Indonesian Products (BBI) and Proud to Travel in Indonesia (BWI) National Movement” virtual event on Saturday, said that the Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH) is seeking to award halal certificates to some 10 million products nationally.

“For that reason, the halal certification assistance program and the expansion of the Curation House launched by Bank Indonesia are urgently needed to achieve the target,” she said.

Parawansa is optimistic that the target can be achieved because a number of universities in East Java also have halal centers and supervisors, and are able to help assist in reaching the expected target.

The Proud of Indonesian Products (BBI) and Proud to Travel in Indonesia (BWI) National Movement event held by the East Java Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office was aimed at supporting the G20 Presidency and economic recovery through digital financial inclusion.

Head of the East Java Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Office Budi Hanoto said the event sought to show that East Java is also participating in instilling a love of local products.

This event is also held, in line with the 2022 Optimistic East Java will Thrive program, with activities that focus on expanding Curation House, curator certifications, and halal certifications through the Halal Pledge scheme.

Sports Minister readies Indonesia as host of 2022 ASEAN Para Games

Jakarta Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali has said that he would immediately begin working to prepare Indonesia to be the host of the ASEAN Para Games 2022, which will be held July 20-31, 2022 in Solo, Central Java.

Indonesia was officially chosen as the host of the ASEAN Para Games 2022 on February 23, replacing Vietnam, which decided to withdraw and will only hold the SEA Games in May this year.

“I had reported to President Joko Widodo that Indonesia has been appointed as the host of ASEAN Para Games 2022, and he said, ‘take it’. Therefore, It was brave to take the (opportunity to host) even though only several months (left before the event),” Amali said here on Saturday.

He admitted that the preparation time for the 2022 ASEAN Para Games was considered brief, with only five months until the games begin. Amali noted that this means that the preparations need to be expedited, such as readying the athletes ahead of the event.

Amali said his team will first hold a coordination meeting with National Paralympic Committee (NPC Indonesia) Chairman Senny Marbun and the Mayor of Solo City Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

“It is likely that I will become the organizer and the Solo Mayor as the manager,” he added.
