105-Year-Old Athlete Triumphs in 100-Meter Race at National Senior Games

Chonburi: In an inspiring feat at the 7th National Senior Games, 105-year-old Mr. Ta Sawang Chanpram clinched the gold medal in the 100-meter race. His remarkable performance was a highlight of the event, showcasing his dedication to frequent training and a diet rich in fish, vegetables, and fruits as the secrets behind his enduring strength.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is committed to promoting sports in tandem with tourism. Chonburi Province embraced this initiative by allowing athletes with an AD card to explore local attractions such as the Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Nong Nooch Garden, and the Marine Science Institute at Burapha University for free. These efforts aim to foster a harmonious blend of sporting excellence and cultural experiences.

The Senior Games, held at the Central Stadium, National Sports University in Chonburi, featured Mr. Ta Sawang competing in the 100-meter event for athletes aged 100 and above. Despite running alongside younger competitors in their 80s and 90s, Mr. Ta Sawang's performance was evaluated within his age category. He completed the race in 37.32 seconds, securing the gold medal and expressing his joy at participating and meeting fellow athletes. Beyond the track, he is set to compete in javelin and discus throwing events.

In other highlights, Mali Rachasuwan from Surat Thani claimed gold in the women's 100-meter race for ages 35-39, finishing in 13.43 seconds. The men's 100-meter final for the same age group saw Phanom Phutsa from Bangkok top the podium with a time of 11.37 seconds.

The petanque women's doubles final for ages 45 and above witnessed Khon Kaen's team, comprising Chadaporn Upolthien, Or-Ek Chirampraikun, and Ariya Wannachai, clinch a thrilling 13-12 victory over Phuket to secure the gold medal.

Bangkok currently leads the medal tally, followed by Chonburi and Nakhon Ratchasima, with Khon Kaen and Surat Thani rounding out the top five.
