Woman Claims Electrocution by Parking Ticket Machine at Shopping Mall

Bangkok: A woman has come forward with a shocking experience involving an automatic parking ticket machine at a well-known shopping mall. She reported being electrocuted by the machine, leading to severe health issues and ongoing struggles in her daily life.

According to Thai News Agency, the woman shared her ordeal on social media, describing how her hand was unexpectedly electrocuted by the light from the machine. This incident occurred when she attempted to wave at the sensor system to receive a parking ticket. Despite not touching the machine, she felt an electric shock that left her arm numb and resulted in severe discomfort extending to her head and leg. With no immediate assistance available, she resorted to honking her car horn to alert an officer.

The woman recounted how the officer's response was limited to opening the barrier without addressing her situation. Seeking medical attention, she visited the customer service counter and was taken to the nurse's room, where initial treatments proved ineffective. Her symptoms worsened, prompting a hospital visit where tests returned normal results but her condition did not improve. Despite reassurances from medical staff that her symptoms would subside, they persisted, leading her to seek further medical care.

She narrated her subsequent hospitalization and the challenges faced when dealing with the department store's response. The store initially promised assistance but later communicated that reimbursement for her medical expenses would be delayed due to her choice of a non-contracted hospital. This left her to manage the situation independently, despite her debilitating symptoms.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornprom Muangman from the Department of Trauma Surgery at Siriraj Hospital had previously highlighted the potential dangers of electric shock, explaining that its severity depends on factors such as the current's intensity and exposure duration. Dr. Muangman emphasized that even survivors can experience long-term effects and disabilities if not treated promptly.

The woman's situation remains unresolved as she continues to suffer from severe headaches, fainting spells, and the inability to work or eat without medication. She plans to file a formal complaint once her health stabilizes, hoping to address the mall's inadequate response and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
