Niwatchai", Secretary-General of the NACC, explained that "Witthaya" is only acting as the temporary NACC chairman because the quorum is not enough to select a new person. Mr. Niwatchai Kasem Mongkol, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), revealed that on September 9, the meeting of the NACC committee, which currently has a total of 6 members, voted by majority to appoint Mr. Witthaya Arkompitak, an NACC member, to act as the chairman of the NACC in place of Pol. Gen. Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, the former chairman of the NACC who retired at the age of 70. The person was selected to temporarily perform the duty in accordance with Section 14 of the Organic Act on the Prevention and Suppression of Corruption. As for the selection of the new NACC chairman, according to the law, there must be 7 NACC members to be selected. However, at present, there are only 6 NACC members, so one NACC member must be selected to perform the duties first. However, even though Mr. Wittaya will comp lete his term in December 2024, if by then the number of NACC members is less than 7, Mr. Wittaya can still serve as the NACC Chairman because he is not yet 70 years old. He admitted that the fact that the number of NACC members is not yet 9 affects the work, so he would like to expedite the recruitment to fill the vacancy. Source: Thai News Agency
