Wan Nor Clarifies 2nd Deputy Speaker Quota in House of Representatives

Bangkok: "Wan Nor" has confirmed that the quota for the second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives does not belong to any specific party. Clarity on the cabinet reshuffle is awaited before discussions on the selection of an individual to perform the duty can commence, with expectations set for completion no later than July.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, addressed the selection process for the second Deputy Speaker of the House, stating that discussions have yet to take place. Agreement between the government whip and the opposition whip is necessary before proceeding with the selection. The House is prepared to act promptly to select the appropriate candidate, emphasizing the need for consensus among members.

Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor assured that any delay in the election would not impact the legislative branch, as the Speaker of the House and the First Deputy Speaker would continue their duties until a Second Deputy Speaker is elected. Efforts are being made to ensure the selection occurs no later than July.

In response to inquiries about waiting for royal approval of the cabinet, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor explained that the process must align with such formalities. Once clarity is achieved within government and opposition parties, discussions on potential candidates will proceed.

The Pheu Thai Party has expressed interest in the position of the 2nd Deputy Speaker. However, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor emphasized that the position is not designated to any political party but is a decision for the House of Representatives' members. If only one candidate is proposed, selection is unnecessary, but if multiple candidates emerge, the decision will follow established rules, with candidates presenting their vision and the majority vote determining the outcome.
