United Front Mobilizes at Victory Monument to Reaffirm Demands and Support Frontline Soldiers

Bangkok: The United Front for the People mob gathered around Victory Monument to hold a rally reaffirming their three demands and collecting donations to assist border villagers and frontline soldiers.

According to Thai News Agency, the United Front for Sovereignty group assembled as planned under the theme "Sending Encouragement, Uniting the Land from the Rear to the Front." Protesters arrived early, with activities scheduled from noon until 9:00 PM. The rally featured national flags as a gesture of support for officials working along the Thai-Cambodian border.

A stage was erected in the center of Victory Monument, with demonstrators occupying approximately two lanes to listen to speeches. Key figures, including Mr. Phichit Chaiyamongkol, were in attendance, although speeches had not commenced. Donation points were established to gather supplies and monetary contributions for military personnel on the frontlines.

Police from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, alongside Ratchathewi District Office officials, municipal officers, and EOD units with police dogs, conducted safety inspections in the protest area. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Sayam Boonsom reported that around 2,000 officers, in coordination with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Tourist Police, and medical units, were deployed for emergency assistance. While no roads were closed, a service lane was designated for ambulances due to the proximity of several hospitals.

As the protest continued, organizers prepared for potential increases in participant numbers and traffic adjustments around Victory Monument. The coalition leaders reiterated their demands, calling for Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra's resignation, the withdrawal of coalition parties from government, and a commitment to defend Thai sovereignty. Ruam Palang Pandin group leaders emphasized the rally's purpose to support frontline officials and urge government accountability.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau announced alternative routes to mitigate traffic disruptions from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM on August 2, 2025. Recommended detours included Phahonyothin Road, Din Daeng Road, and Phaya Thai Road, with specific turns and intersections to avoid congestion. With traffic conditions worsening, the public is advised to plan their travel accordingly and steer clear of affected routes.
