Bangkok: The United Nations Secretary-General expressed his condolences for Her Majesty the Queen Mother, declaring it a great loss for Thailand and supporting peace and international law in the border conflict.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, held bilateral discussions with Mr. Antonio Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits.

On this occasion, the UN Secretary-General expressed his condolences for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, which is a great loss for Thailand. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and congratulations on his first meeting with the UN Secretary-General, praising the UN's crucial role amid global challenges.

Both sides also discussed the regional security situation. The Prime Minister stated that the signing of the statement and the results of the meeting between the Thai and Cambodian Prime Ministers confirmed that Thailand, as a neighboring country, desires peace. At the same time, it must take steps to protect its sovereignty and ensure the well-being and safety of the Thai people. Conditions include the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the clearance of mines, the suppression of online scammers, and the management of intrusion. These conditions, once developed, will lead to peace and a further adjustment of relations.

The Secretary-General expressed his support and agreed that the border is a complex issue and all parties should pursue peaceful resolutions in accordance with international law, similar to the situation in Myanmar. The Secretary-General also expressed his understanding that Thailand, as a close neighbor, will have a special perspective and importance, and the United Nations supports the promotion of reconciliation and peace within the country.

After the discussion, the Prime Minister also presented Thailand's Complementarities Initiative 2.0 report, which will be submitted for endorsement at this year's ASEAN-UN Summit, as a concrete guideline for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the ASEAN region.
