Paethongtarn", Prime Minister, flies to Chiang Rai to meet with government agencies tomorrow to set the framework for the national disaster response and prevention plan. We must systematically cope with future floods and storms in every region of the country. If we can conclude on disaster prevention, we will conclude it as the "Mae Sai Model". Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, advisor to the Prime Minister, said that this morning Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, received a summary report from Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai and the ministers who direct the operation center for flood, storm and mudslide relief (OCP), to implement the plan for protection of the lower northern and upper central provinces affected by the northern water. In addition, the NCPO reported on the rehabilitation plan of Chiang Rai, Nong Khai and other provinces affected by floods and mudslides, emphasizing the policy that was previously ordered to expedite compensation payments and reduce the number of paperwork st eps as much as possible. Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province is an important event that the government must summarize and conclude in terms of prevention completely. Mr. Jirayu said that the Prime Minister stated that we have never encountered a problem of a flash flood carrying a large amount of mud into the city like this before. We must set a framework for the national disaster response and prevention plan. We must systematically cope with future floods and storms in every region of the country. If we can come to a conclusion that can prevent disasters, we will conclude it as the “Mae Sai Model” as a prototype for working to solve problems. Because if a flood problem like this occurs again in Thailand, there will be a comprehensive response plan in every province and every region of Thailand. Mr. Jirayu continued that the government needs to listen to additional problems and learn about preventive measures from local government agencies, whether they are the private sector, foundations, and people in f lood-stricken areas, in order to set preventive policies. Tomorrow (27 September), the Prime Minister, along with the Deputy Prime Minister and ministers who are members of the CPOC, will travel to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai to follow up on the assistance provided to the people, and hold meetings with heads of local government agencies and representatives of various sectors in the areas to set directions and find conclusions to be used in writing a strategic plan to deal with the country’s floods and storms again. The Prime Minister and his entourage will stay overnight in Chiang Rai and then travel to Chiang Mai, in the flood-stricken areas, to meet with the people to listen to their problems after the rehabilitation. “In October, even though it is the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cold season, which is expected to pass the rainy season in mid-October, during this time, the Operations Center for Flood, Storm, and Mudslide Relief and all government agencies should continue to closely monito r the situation until there is a change in order because in the coming week, there will still be continuous rain in many areas of Thailand. If there is a storm or flash flood, we will be able to resolve it in time,” said Mr. Jirayu. Source: Thai News Agency
