Thawee Urges Police General Hospital to Forward Thaksin’s Medical Records to NACC

Bangkok: "Thawee" has recommended that the Police General Hospital, if confident in its actions, forward Thaksin Shinawatra's medical records to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), ensuring the Department of Corrections' full cooperation as per legal requirements.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, the Minister of Justice, addressed the situation following protests demanding the release of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's medical records by the Police General Hospital. The NACC had requested these records but had not yet received them. Thawee emphasized that if a case has been established, it is imperative for various agencies to provide necessary information. The Department of Corrections is prepared to cooperate fully with the NACC's inquiries. Thawee noted that Thaksin had submitted foreign medical records upon entering the country, indicating his medical conditions. He underscored the importance of cooperation and transparency in the NACC's investigation.

When questioned about the Police General Hospital's previous actions, Thawee confirmed that the hospital had previously sent Thaksin's medical records to the Ministry of Justice. After the completion of a 120-day treatment period, medical evidence was provided for continued treatment consideration. If the NACC requests these records, they will be supplied, with the Corrections Department Director-General responsible for the decision. Thawee personally believes that the Police General Hospital should consider providing the records to the NACC, as an investigation is now underway, despite previous legal constraints.

Regarding concerns about patient rights, Thawee stated that legal considerations should prevail, but stressed that if all actions are conducted lawfully, the records should be submitted to the NACC for review.
