‘Thanon Song Wat’ to Become a New Landmark in the Heart of the City

Bangkok: Thailand is a must-visit destination. "Thanon Song Wat" has become a new landmark in the heart of the city. The government and private sector are collaborating to enhance the area, attracting tourists with light and digital art.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Commerce, has collaborated with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration executives and the Made in Song Wat group to discuss ways to promote and transform Song Wat Road, Bangkok's old commercial district, into "Old Soul, New Style - Song Wat, a neighborhood with goodness from every era," under the concept "Thai made, Thai used, Thai helped Thai, Thai traveled in Thailand." This aim is to stimulate the economy and create excitement in the old commercial district.

Song Wat Road is a historic commercial area that has been around for over 100 years, dating back to the reign of King Rama V. It boasts a diverse mix of cultures, including Thai (temples), Chinese (shrines), and Islamic (ancient mosques). It is also home to restaurants, cafes, and galleries run by young entrepreneurs, blending traditional and modern trading styles seamlessly.

The government will promote Thanon Song Wat as a landmark and key check-in point in Bangkok for both Thai and international tourists. This will be achieved by upgrading the infrastructure, including landscaping, installing standard restrooms, enhancing security, organizing traffic and parking areas, and developing a Visitor Guide. All shops will also be required to clearly display prices for their products and services to build consumer confidence and ensure fairness for vendors.

A special event, "Awakening Song Wat 2025," featuring 14 light and digital art installations, will be held at 12 locations along the road from August 8-17, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, allowing the public and tourists to experience the charm of Song Wat Road in the evening.

"The government aims to revitalize old commercial districts by combining historical charm with modern innovation, ensuring a safe and quality travel experience for Thais and tourists from around the world. We are also committed to developing the country's key tourist areas for balanced and sustainable growth," said Ms. Sasikarn.
