Thanakorn Unveils Strategic Plan to Bolster SMEs and Combat Counterfeit Goods

Bangkok: Thanakorn Wangboonkhongchana, the Minister of Industry, has announced a comprehensive plan aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), boosting liquidity, and preventing the influx of counterfeit products into Thailand. This initiative also includes measures to inspect illegal factories, manage waste, and strictly control PM 2.5 pollution levels during the peak season.

According to Thai News Agency, the initial meeting of the Economic Cabinet will primarily focus on economic stimulus measures to improve the livelihoods of citizens, with a significant emphasis on enhancing liquidity. The Ministry of Industry, in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand, is committed to providing financial assistance to the severely affected SMEs.

In addition to financial support, the plan addresses the critical issue of counterfeit goods entering the market. A verification platform is proposed to ensure that products are genuinely manufactured in Thailand, thereby avoiding tax implications and tightening controls on imported goods.

Furthermore, with the peak tourism season approaching, a concerted effort will be made to manage environmental concerns such as sugarcane burning and PM 2.5 pollution. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, along with related agencies, will enforce strict measures to control and mitigate these issues.

A full-scale enforcement team has been appointed to tackle illegal factories and address waste management. The initiative aims to restore a clean environment for operators by implementing strict controls and conducting thorough inspections of non-compliant products under the Thai Industrial Standards (TIS).
