Thaksin’s Health Under Scrutiny Amid Ongoing Protests

Bangkok: Corrections Department has revealed that Thaksin Shinawatra is experiencing reduced sleep and elevated blood pressure, leading to a rescheduled psychological evaluation.

According to Thai News Agency, Kanokwan Jiwchuephan, Superintendent of Nonthaburi Provincial Prison and Deputy Department Spokesperson, shared that after a family visit on September 18, Thaksin underwent a blood pressure check which showed a slight increase, likely due to insufficient sleep. Consequently, his psychological assessment was moved to today. Details of the evaluation remain confidential as they require the prisoner's consent. Thaksin's daily routine remains unchanged; he wakes around 6:00 a.m., sleeps by 9:30 p.m., and consumes boiled or soft-boiled eggs for breakfast. His activities include reading, watching TV, and arm exercises.

In light of the Red Shirt protests set for September 20 and 21, the deputy spokesperson noted that the prison is accustomed to receiving protesters and maintains regular coordination with local police.

Neither lawyers nor the Shinawatra family visited Thaksin today, with their next visit planned for Monday, September 22. The Red Shirts' protest schedule includes a gathering on Saturday, September 20, at 3:00 PM in front of Klong Prem Central Prison and a larger assembly on Sunday, September 21, at 10:00 AM, with supporters from 20 provinces expected to join.
