Thaksin Denies Family Conflict as Cause of Thai-Cambodian Tensions

Ubon ratchathani: Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has emphasized that the ongoing violent clash between Thailand and Cambodia is not linked to the disputes between two prominent families, criticizing Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen for exacerbating the situation.

According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin visited the Pheu Thai Party's Disaster Relief Center at the Det Udom Municipality Shelter in Ubon Ratchathani Province to offer support to evacuees. During his visit, Thaksin personally prepared and distributed pork fried rice to those affected by the conflict. He took the time to engage with the evacuees, providing encouragement and support.

While interacting with the villagers, Thaksin was serenaded with a birthday song by the local Member of Parliament and residents, celebrating his birthday on July 26th. In a gesture of goodwill, it was announced that each evacuee at the Det Udom Municipality shelter would receive 1,000 baht.

Thaksin refuted claims that a family conflict was responsible for the tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. He stated that the issues arose due to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's anger over the Cambodian army's withdrawal from a disputed area, while the Thai army maintained its position and refused to open the border. This led to the release of a phone conversation with Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, which further escalated the situation.
