Bangkok: The government of Thailand is gearing up to organize a series of commemorative activities on December 5, 2024, to honor the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. This date, which is also recognized as National Day and Father's Day, will see a range of events aimed at paying tribute to the revered monarch. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, the Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office, announced the government's plans for the day. The Prime Minister has sought permission on behalf of the government to hold activities that will appropriately mark the occasion. The day's events will commence with a religious ceremony featuring a Buddhist chanting session and the offering of alms to monks. This central ceremony will be held at Sanam Luang with the participation of 189 monks, presided over by the Prime Minister and his spouse. Similar ceremonies will be organized in every province at their respective city halls or suitable locations, while Thai emb assies and consulates worldwide will consider hosting events as they see fit. Further, the National Office of Buddhism has proposed that all temples in Thailand conduct a ceremony of chanting Buddhist mantras and meditation to offer royal merit. This initiative will be presented to the Sangha Supreme Council for approval. Thai temples located abroad are also encouraged to organize similar ceremonies as they deem appropriate. In addition, a wreath-laying ceremony will be conducted in all provinces at their provincial halls or other suitable venues to pay homage to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. Thai embassies and consulates overseas will also arrange similar ceremonies where deemed suitable. Throughout December 2024, volunteer activities aimed at public benefit and charity will be organized in honor of His Majesty, further emphasizing the spirit of community service and gratitude.
