Thailand Opens Cassava Market in Saudi Arabia with Initial 20,000 Tons Export

Bangkok: Thailand has successfully negotiated to open the cassava market in Saudi Arabia, marking the first lot of 20,000 tons intended for animal feed, valued at over 136 million baht. Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced this development following efforts by the Department of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce to expand the export market of Thai cassava products in the Middle Eastern animal feed industry.

According to Thai News Agency, the negotiations took place between May 17-22, 2025, in Riyadh and Jeddah. The visit aimed to align with the government's policy to boost the cassava export market, thereby enhancing trade and supporting prices for farmers. During the discussions, Thai representatives highlighted the nutritional benefits of Thai cassava and its use in animal feed formulas to several companies, including Al Sanabel Al Zahabiya Industrial, Arabian Agricultural Services Company (ARASCO), and United Feeds. These companies expressed interest in importing cassava for testing in their animal feed products.

Mr. Anukul revealed that an initial order of more than 20,000 tons is expected, with further talks planned with Thai entrepreneurs visiting Saudi Arabia to finalize pricing, transportation, and direct delivery methods. He emphasized that this negotiation marks a positive beginning for Thai cassava products in the Middle Eastern market.

The government is focused on promoting agricultural products to targeted international markets. Relevant agencies will keep a close watch on the ongoing negotiations concerning the cassava trade to maximize import potential from Saudi Arabia, leveraging Thai cassava's high-quality and nutritional value as a strong alternative to other grains in the animal feed sector, Mr. Anukul stated.
