Bangkok: Maris revealed that Thailand is considering filing civil and criminal charges against Cambodia for causing violence in the border area. He stated that international courts will be explored. The National Security Council (NSC) will meet this evening before the GBC meeting on August 7.

According to Thai News Agency, Foreign Minister Maris Sengiampong addressed the government's preparations to file civil and criminal lawsuits against Cambodia for damages stemming from the violence on the Thai-Cambodian border. He stated that he is currently unaware of the court in which the case will be filed, as he is still studying the matter. He also stated that he has filed a lawsuit against an international organization.

Reporters stated that at 4:00 PM, there will be a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) to gather information from the General Border Committee (GBC), which is being held by the Secretariat. The conclusions of today's (August 6th) NSC meeting will be an indicator of the GBC meeting on August 7th, when the defense ministers from both countries will discuss the matter.

A security news report mentioned Cambodia's filing a lawsuit with an international organization, stating that information is being gathered and legal issues are being considered. It is acknowledged that there are loopholes if an international lawsuit is used. As for whether the lawsuit will bind Thailand to accept the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, it will need to be carefully considered to see if it will have binding effects on other matters.
