Bangkok: Thailand is preparing for continued rainfall across several regions from September 15-23, 2025, as revealed by the Meteorological Department. The persistent downpour is attributed to the monsoon trough and low-pressure areas affecting various parts of the country. Areas experiencing accumulated rainfall are advised to remain vigilant for potential flash floods and landslides. Furthermore, a strong low-pressure area is expected to form in the South China Sea, possibly advancing into northeastern Thailand later this week. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecasting Division, stated that during the specified period, Thailand will witness continuous rainfall. This includes light to moderate showers interspersed with heavy rains, particularly affecting the central and lower northeastern regions, the central region, the eastern region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the western coast of the southern region. The increase in rainfall is primarily due to several fac tors: 1. The monsoon trough is passing through the Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions, resulting in widespread rain. 2. A low-pressure area will influence the lower northeastern region from September 17-22, potentially leading to heavy rain in various areas, including the lower northern, central, northeastern, and eastern regions, as well as Bangkok and its vicinity. 3. A strong southwest monsoon continues to blow over Thailand, the Andaman Sea, and the Gulf of Thailand, enhancing rainfall in the southern region with some areas experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department is also keeping a close watch on the development of a strong low-pressure area over the South China Sea, expected between September 16-19. This system may move towards the Vietnamese coast and subsequently pass through Laos, Cambodia, and into northeastern Thailand, potentially bringing more rain later in the week. Regions advised to exercise caution for heavy rain and possible flooding include the lower northern areas of Phitsanulok and Uttaradit, the lower central areas of Suphan Buri and Sing Buri, the lower northeastern region, and Bangkok and its vicinity, especially in low-lying or urban communities prone to drainage issues. The Meteorological Department strongly recommends that residents in at-risk areas stay informed through weather announcements and forecasts, particularly during periods of intense rainfall, which could elevate water levels in rivers and canals, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
