PATHUM THANI: The Thai national football team is gearing up for the ASEAN Football Championship, with left-back Aphisit Sorada expressing his eagerness to contribute to the team's success. The squad, bolstered by the inclusion of two J-League players, is set to face Malaysia in the upcoming Group A match at the Rajamangala National Stadium. According to Thai News Agency, Aphisit Sorada from Ratchaburi FC admitted to feeling excited about his selection for the ASEAN Championship. He hopes to leverage the confidence gained from his participation in the King's Cup to help the team defend their title. The team's Japanese head coach, Masatada Ishii, has also strengthened the squad by incorporating Supachok Sarachat from Consadole Sapporo and Ekanit Panya from Urawa Red Diamonds, both of whom joined the team on December 11. The team now consists of 26 players who are training at the BG Training Center in Pathum Thani Province in preparation for their first Group A match against the Malaysian national team on Dece mber 14. However, the team will be without the services of Benjamin James Davis, a Thai-English midfielder from Uthai Thani FC, who sustained an injury in the first game. Davis is expected to be sidelined for at least one to two weeks, potentially ruling him out for the entire first round. In the latest group match results, Singapore secured a 2-1 victory over Cambodia, while Malaysia edged past Timor Leste with a 3-2 win. As the Thai team prepares for their match on December 14, they aim to build momentum and strive for success in the 2024 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
