Bangkok: Thailand and Cambodia are set to sign a joint declaration aimed at building peace between the two neighbours during the upcoming ASEAN Summit, with the United States and Malaysia expected to serve as witnesses, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said Friday. Sihasak told reporters the document, officially titled the Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia on the outcomes of their meetings leading to peace, is ready for signature on Oct. 26.
According to Thai News Agency, Sihasak emphasized that the signing is not a peace agreement but rather a document outlining a path to resolving problems and moving towards peace. He highlighted the importance of taking concrete steps following the signing by the prime ministers of both nations.
Sihasak further elaborated on the need for practical guidelines to be established after the signing. He stressed the importance of confirming that both countries are moving in the right direction, working to solve key issues, and building mutual trust. He pointed out that Thailand and Cambodia must learn to coexist as neighbours.
